The father of Dominic Thiem – Wolfgang has set the goals which his son will be after in 2020: a first Grand Slam title and breaking in the top 3.

In 2019, Thiem, who is currently ranked World No. 4, won his maiden Masters title by defeating Roger Federer in the Indian Wells final. The 26-year old Austrian tennis player had reached a career-high ranking of No. 4 in the world in 2017. Still, he hasn’t yet gotten into the top 3, surprisingly or not.

“The goal for 2020 is clear – to win a Grand Slam title and (to make) the top-3,” Wolfgang Thiem told Heute.

One of the proper steps towards the Austrian’s success is probably the addition to the team of coach Nicolas Massu in February. Thiem’s game has been improving ever since Massu joined the coaching staff.

For the second year in a row, the 26-year old made the final at the French Open. He couldn’t get past through world No. 1 Rafael Nadal to lift his maiden Major glory, though.

Otherwise, Dominic has 16 career titles so far and 2020 will definitely be the year where his hunt for Grand Slam success will continue.
