Sheffield United have paid £22 million to Genk for Sander Berge. The 21-year old midfielder has completed a medical ahead of his transfer – a deal, which will keep him at Bramall Lane until 2024.

Berge is a first-team regular for Norway, having played in 20 games since making his first appearance in 2017. He is 1,95m tall and can play as a defensive midfielder, as well as further on the pitch, as a central midfielder.

He’s been with Genk since January 2017, quickly becoming a vital part of the team. Berge played 113 games for the Belgian team, including clashes with Liverpool and Napoli in the Champions League this season. He won both the Belgian Supercup and Division with Genk.

Sheffield United hope to sign a few on deadline day

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder said at his pre-match press conference this morning that he hopes to sign “two or three players” on deadline day.

“We’re working away at a number of deals and we’re close to getting over the line,” Wilder said.

“They will be presented in time when everything’s done, out of respect for everyone involved. Until they sign on the dotted line and everything’s agreed, we’re still working away.”
