Real Valladolid have signed Hatem Ben Arfa on a free transfer. The 32-year old winger last played for French side Rennes and has been without a club since the summer of 2019.

“Hatem Ben Arfa is a new Real Valladolid player until the end of this season. The French attacker signed his contract on Tuesday and on Wednesday he will join the work under Sergio Gonzalez,” a statement on Valladolid’s website read.

Ben Arfa has rich experience, having played for Newcastle, Hull, Marseille, Nice, and PSG. He’s also a former French international with 15 games and 2 goals for the team. Once labeled as “one of the best-rated talents in France”, Arfa has been struggling with disciplinary issues throughout his career.

Real Valladolid in the relegation fight

Valladolid, who are owned by Brazilian football legend Ronaldo, currently sit 16th in the La Liga standings. They have gathered 22 points, which is five more than 18th placed Celta Vigo. Valladolid will surely hope that Ben Arfa’s experience can help the team guarantee their place in the Spanish top flight for next season.
