The Carabao Cup semi-finals draw gave us another Manchester Derby between City and United, which will determine one of the finalists in the competition. The other clash will be between Leicester and Aston Villa.

The semi-finals are played in two legs, thus we’ll actually enjoy two Manchester derbies. The reigning champions of the EFL Cup Manchester City defeated Oxford 3-1 away in the quarter-finals, while United beat Colchester 3-0 at home.

In the other two games, Aston Villa thrashed an inexperienced Liverpool side 5-0, while Leicester won a penalty shootout 4-2 against Everton to progress further after drawing 2-2 in normal time.

Manchester Derby: twice in January

The two games between United and City are set for January 7 and January 28 with the first game taking place at Old Trafford. Manchester City has won three of the last four Carabao Cups (2016, 2018, 2019), while United won the trophy in 2017.

The local rivals had an encounter just two weeks ago at Etihad Stadium. United won 2-1, most probably ending City’s dreams of sealing another Premier League title. It may very well be United again, that could end The Citizen’s aspirations of winning three EFL Cups in a row.
