Luis Suarez has admitted MLS is a “nice possibility“, amidst uncertainty over his long-term future at his current club Barcelona.
The Uruguayan’s contract with “Blaugranas” will expire in the summer of 2021 and it is highly likely that the forward will continue his career elsewhere afterward. The 32-year old currently has 6 goals in 10 games for Ernesto Valverde’s team this season.
Luis Suarez – Past and Future
The controversial forward joined Barcelona from Liverpool in the summer of 2014. He has a fantastic record with the Spanish giants, scoring 185 goals in 260 matches so far, which means he’s scored a goal in every 22.1 minutes. Suarez became Top Scorer of La Liga in 2015/16 with 40 goals and has won numerous titles with the team, including the Champions League, 4 La Liga’s and 4 Spanish cups.
The Uruguayan may be starting his 33rd year in January, but he still has a lot to give. Here’s what he said about a possible move to MLS:
“MLS is a league that any player would be interested in and I asked him about the competition and about his team-mates. I have a contract with Barca and I am very happy here. In the future you never know, it’s an attractive league.”
“Given that I have been lucky to have had success at the top level for a long time, what I would look out for [next] is stability for my family and the well-being of my children. They would all make the decision along with me and the United States is a nice possibility.”
“MLS is a competition which has grown a lot in the last few years and you can see that with the young players that have moved there in the last two years, above all the South Americans.”
Suarez has already been linked with a move to David Beckham’s Inter Miami side, which will debut in the MLS in the upcoming season. Suarez has also been quite positive about the American top-flight’s growth over the last few years.
Nicolas Lodeiro, a countryman of Suarez has recently talked about his friend, stating that he’ll join the MLS “sooner than later“. Lodeiro added that Suarez has expressed interest in joining the league and joked about him becoming a teammate in Seattle Sounders.
