Everton has been negotiating with Vitor Pereira over the past week, with hopes that the manager will join them before their Sunday trip to Manchester United.
Everton is looking for a new head coach after they fired Marco Silva last Friday. Club legend Duncan Ferguson is temporarily in charge, leading “The Toffees” to a 3-1 win against Chelsea on Saturday.
Vitor Pereira heading to Everton – Who is he?
Everton is offering 51-year old Pereira a three-year deal to take over affairs at “Goodison Park”. However, the manager’s current club Shanghai SIPG appear to be determined to keep their coach, offering him a new deal worth around $33 million.
Vitor Pereira has a wealthy experience as a coach. He began working with Padroense youth team back in 2002/2003 and shortly after took over Porto’s youth – 2003/2004. His first head coach role came in the 2004/2005 when he was appointed at third-division Portuguese side Sanjoanense.
We worked at Espinho, at the same level, between 2005-2007 before returning to Porto youth in 2007/2008. In 2008, he was appointed as Santa Clara coach. He managed to guide the team to third and fourth-place finishes in the second division, only narrowly missing on promotion to the top tier.
Afterward, he returned to Porto, this time as an assistant coach for the 2010/2011 season, before becoming the head coach – a role he would keep between 2011-2013. Pereira managed to win the Primeira Liga twice before subsequently journeying to Al-Ahli, Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, and 1860 Munich.
