The 2019 ballon d’Or winner appears to be already known. Earlier today an anonymous source linked to a list on Twitter which reveals the top 10.
Ballon d’Or 2019 winner is…
Lionel Messi. At least according to the twitter post. The Argentinian wins with 446 points followed by Virgil Van Dijk from Liverpool with 382 points. Mohamed Salah comes third with 179 points. Cristiano Ronaldo is fourth – 133.
If this information is true, Ronaldo will be out of the top 3 for the first time since 2010, when Barcelona trio Messi, Iniesta, and Xavi occupied the competition. Lionel Messi is currently tied with Ronaldo, both having won a record of five, but could come out as a six-time winner, should the leak turn out to be truthful.
Meanwhile, van Dijk was questioned about his chances of winning the honor, following his incredible performance yesterday for Liverpool’s 2-1 victory over Brighton.
“Well, I think it doesn’t matter as you said already, we’ll see,” the Dutch defender told Gary Lineker.
“I’m proud of what I achieved last year with Liverpool. I’m gonna be there for a reason. What can I say? We’ll see. There’s no loser there, there’s only a winner. I’m already very proud.”
The 2019 Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place this Monday, December 2, in Paris, France.
