Aston Villa have submitted a £4.2 million bid to sign Daniel Sturridge, Turkish outlet Fanatik reports. The former Liverpool and Chelsea forward has been playing for Turkish side Trabzonspor August 2019 after his contract with Liverpool expired.

Sturridge has valuable experience in the Premier League having amassed more than 200 appearances in the competition for the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City, Bolton, and West Bromwich Albion.

He last played in the Premier League on loan at West Brom, although he couldn’t really ignite the team spirit, featuring in only 6 games.

Aston Villa eager to add another striker

Dean Smith already signed Mbwana Samatta, but wants to enforce his squad with another forward before the January transfer window closes at the end of this week.

Aston Villa currently sit 16th in the league table with 25 points – just two above the relegation zone. It seems it’s going to be a battle for survival of the toughest kind, thus Smith wants to be well prepared, especially after his striker Wesley was ruled out till the end of the season with an injury.

Sturridge’s current team Trabzonspor appear to be willing to sell, as it would get the forward’s large salary off their books. The former English international has scored 7 in 13 games this season.

Aston Villa have been busy during the transfer window and already acquired the signatures of Mbwana Samatta, Pepe Reina, and Danny Drinkwater.
