Feeding your watchdog
Session leader: Lauren Gustus, Reno Gazette-Journal Watchdog reporting is undoubtedly our most important franchise and the area of journalism that will keep us relevant in the face of constant competition. When looking for watchdog opportunities in sports, one mantra is the tried-and-true "follow the money." Two examples of this from the Arizona Republic this year was uncovering the Fiesta Bowl scandal, and looking at wasteful spending by the state's high school athletics association. Panel discussion with the reporters who worked both of those projects, as well as takeaways for editors on how to generated watchdog in their shops.

Lisa Love, Vice President for Athletics, Arizona State University Greg Byrne, Director of Athletics, University of Arizona

12:45-1:30 p.m.
Management doctor
Session leader: Mark Faller, Arizona Republic A chance to ask a panel of sports editors how they do their jobs in a changing world, and get advice on sticky situations large and small.
Kicking this off is a look at how leadership training for managers has become a big factor at the Arizona Republic the past two years.
