Editors from award-winning metro, mid-size and small papers showcase preps coverage on web and in print April 30, 2010

Getting ready for that big high school football special section?

Thinking ahead for coverage of upcoming state championships?

Looking for some ideas on how to make the prep coverage attract readers and Web site hits?

Three editors discuss what has worked for them and their award-winning sections.

Join Danyelle White, assistant sports editor of the Salt Lake Tribune; Darnell Dickson, sports editor of the Daily Herald in Provo, Utah; and WyoSports editor Robert Gagliardi as they talk about coverage of high schools for print and online, special sections and big-event coverage in "Balancing Preps for Print and Web."

They will talk about their experiences in the Web world, from videos to blogs; and offer tips for big and small papers on coordinating coverage of high school events given today’s resources.

Prep coverage is among the general sessions and workshops offered in Salt Lake City. Workshops include a examination of Watchdog Reporting and the ever-popular Great Ideas general session.

The deadline for the $200 registration fee is June 1, and APSE members should have received registration forms and a listing of social activities in the mail. If you have not, e-mail Executive Director Jack Berninger at jackapse@aol.com or at 804-741-1565. To see an outline of convention events, click here.

In a change from past years, one registration fee allows multiple people from your organization to attend. Register for the hotel, the Marriott City Center, by calling 877-907-4491. The group code is APS (no E).
Toby Carrig is a former third vice president of APSE. You can reach him via e-mail at tobycarrig@yahoo.com.
