Help Wanted

Multi-platform journalist, sports copy desk Aug. 2, 2011

The York (Pa.) Daily Record/Sunday News is seeking an experienced multi-platform journalist to join its sports copy desk. We are a seven-day morning newspaper and 24/7 web operation in southcentral Pennsylvania. This is a MediaNews Group-owned newspaper with circulations of 47,000 daily and 90,000 Sunday.

The person we hire will be one of four full-time multi-platform journalists on an overall copy desk that also includes a sports editor and two assistant sports editors. This position is five nights per week. The Daily Record/Sunday News newsroom also handles the daily production of the Hanover and Lebanon newspapers.

However, the Daily Record/Sunday News, The (Hanover) Evening Sun and the Lebanon Daily News are not just newspapers. A newspaper is merely one platform our newsrooms use to serve our communities. As is the Web. And a blog. And a smartphone. You will work fluidly on all these platforms and more.

Our primary coverage areas include local high school sports, local college sports, Penn State football, the York Revolution minor-league baseball team, hunting and dirt-track racing. Because of our location, we must balance coverage of MLB (Orioles, Phillies) and NFL (Steelers, Ravens, Eagles) throughout the year.

We are looking for a strong copy editor with excellent news judgment, eye-catching design skills and an ability to consistently meet pressure deadlines. Our copy editors are also fully involved with the posting and editing of stories and other content on our web sites, including www.ydr.com and www.gametimepa.com. We need someone who is enthused about the possibilities of online sports journalism and can bring fresh ideas and energy to that important area while still helping us publish quality print editions each day.

We are looking to move quickly on this opening. Send resume, references and your best design clips to Chris Otto, Sports Editor, York Daily Record/Sunday News, 1891 Loucks Road, York, Pa. 17408. Or, better yet, e-mail those materials to cotto@ydr.com.
