Job Wanted

Reporter, writer March 24, 2011

I am a young journalist looking for full-time employment in the sports section of a daily newspaper anywhere within the United States. I am a two-time winner of the Region 4 Mark of Excellence Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, a two-time winner of the best collegiate sports writer in Ohio from the SPJ and a two-time nominee for the Rising Stars award from the Basketball Writers’ Association of America — an award that recognizes the best basketball writers under 30 years old. In the past six months, I have served in three journalistic positions: as the Xavier University beat reporter for FOX Sports Ohio, where I wrote three articles for every Xavier men’s basketball game, approximately five features per month and helped produce a small highlight package for a majority of home games; as the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the Xavier Newswire — the weekly campus newspaper at Xavier University; and the Atlantic 10 columnist College Chalktalk, a national college basketball website for which I wrote a weekly column and contributed intermittent content throughout the week. I also spent a season as a freelance writer covering 75 Cincinnati Reds home games for PA-Sportsticker, wrote a variety of local sports stories while interning for a summer at the Star-Gazette in Elmira, N.Y. and provided features, preps coverage and online content during a summer interning at the Orange County Register in Santa Ana, Calif. Please feel free to contact me at doug.tifft@gmail.com.
