Mid-Atlantic notes: Harrisburg tells stories Dec. 9, 2010

The Harrisburg Patriot-News assembled a panel on storytelling for the Sharon Johnson Memorial Workshop on Nov. 18 at the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association headquarters in Harrisburg.

That workshop, which attracted 75 people, included John Luciew of the Patriot-News, author Marion Winik and Frank Wiese of The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The sports panel featured baseball writer Dave Sheinin of the Washington Post, who talked about the Stephen Strasburg beat he had during the spring and summer, and freelance writer and author Christopher McDougall, best known for his book entitled "Born to Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, and the Greatest Race the World Has Never Seen."

In the fall, the Patriot-News sponsored a town meeting in Hershey that featured the Bears beat writer and AHL personalities.

PREP FOOTBALL SPOTLIGHT

Allentown (Pa.) Morning Call: Three sports writers have talked about upcoming high school football playoff games in weekly videos produced and posted over the past four weeks. The videos have included highlights – provided by local cable company – of some of the teams and players. The video show has been kept to about two minutes and was to continue for as long as teams in the Call's coverage area are alive in the state playoffs.
