APSE Southwest Regional schedule set July 23, 2012
The agenda is set for APSE's 2012 Southwest Regional meeting, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28 in San Antonio. The meeting will be at 309 North Alamo Street, which was our 2010 location. (It’s called the Flannery House, and the entrance is on the side of the building.) 1-2:30 pm.: Effective Twitter practices
What constitutes Overtweeting? Tweeting w/ links vs. straight text. What are some of the better analytic programs to help you track what people click? Tweeting/FB w/ mobile users in mind. Using social media at big events.
2:45-3:45 p.m.: How We Got the Stories
Two discussions about how difficult stories were reported, written and presented.
3:45-5 p.m.: Content Sharing
What’s working at both the large papers and the small ones? Are there things we need to change about our college share arrangement in Texas?
Are there other opportunities we haven’t thought about?
5:45 p.m.: Dinner
9-10 a.m.: Live-scoring update/Mobile Technology and Sports Coverage
Who has iPad and/or iPhone apps? How are they updated? What's most successful on them? What Dallas learned in its first year of offering live scoring coverage for high school football.
10:15-11:15 a.m.: Rethinking the Game Story
In the era of 24/7 results, how should we cover live events? What have papers tried? What have they learned?
1:45-2:30: Idea Generation
How do we go about coming up with our best ideas? Are there tricks to doing this? In an era when everyone is working extra hard just to stay afloat, how do we come up with “big” ideas that can actually be done?
2:45-3:45 p.m.: How to Lead in Uncertain Times
How can we stay engaged and keep our staffs engaged? How do we lead effectively when times are tough?
