Glenn Jordan of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram won first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in Explanatory writing in the 30,000-75,000 circulation category for his story on how non-traditional adventure races by for-profit organizations were taking a toll on local charity events.

Phil Barber of the Santa Rosa (Calif.) Press Democrat and Tom Schad of the Washington Times tied for first place in the Associated Press Sports Editors 2015 contest in feature writing in the 30,000-75,000 circulation category. Barber won for his story on Golden State’s Stephen Curry and his mouthpiece, while Schad won for his story on minor league umpires and their journey to the major leagues.
